Art
The art, design and photography department is friendly, popular and successful part of the creative and expressive arts team.
The department is housed in 2 light and airy purpose built classrooms, we have excellent facilities including a kiln room including pottery wheels, large dark room and 3 dimensional facilities. We also are fortunate enough to have large preparation and storage facilities for art works. The art department also runs trips for all year groups including Barcelona, Paris, St Ives in Cornwall, London, Poole Quay and several art galleries in the local area.

In years 7, 8 & 9 all boys have a 1- hour art lesson per week in mixed ability groups. Students have the opportunity to work in 2D and 3D work and we encourage our boys to experiment and manipulate with a wide range of materials and processes aiming to develop deep knowledge and understanding in line with the national curriculum requirements. Critical Studies is seen as an integral part of all practical art work. Current schemes of work include designing a shoe for an artist, landscapes, metamorphosis, built environment and Theatrical mask making.

At GCSE level Portchester offer Art & Design and Photography GCSE. Students use sketchbooks as a means for recording, researching, exploring, developing and documenting ideas. It will be a record of their observations, experiences, opinions and visual ideas, showing progression in knowledge, understanding and skills. Students are encouraged to work with a variety of materials and techniques, producing prep work in sketchbooks and developing their own ideas towards a final result. GCSE schemes of work devised by the department are; Still life, Portraiture, Natural Form, Movement and The Environment.
