In Portchester’s History department we aim to encourage and motivate all students, and strive to make lessons and homeworks accessible and enjoyable for all.
The department has 2 classrooms, both with digital projectors and interactive whiteboards. Homework is set for each half term via the school’s VLE (Fronter) and in addition a competition is also run each term through the VLE.

KS3 History
In years 7-9 students follow the KS3 National Curriculum. Students study British and World History from the Romans to the present day. They look for patterns across the periods and for what the BIG changes and issues of each period are. They also study some topics in some depth.
Students study a variety of themes within each period they study.
These include:- Government, Warfare, Transport, Medicine, and Crime and Punishment
In depth topics within each year group include:
Year 7 – The Roman Army, The Battle of Hastings and Bad King John
Year 8 – William Shakespeare, The Civil War, Jack the Ripper
Year 9 – Slavery, World War One, the assassination of JFK and History of Sport
KS4 History
History is an optional subject in years 10 and 11. It is increasingly popular reflecting students enjoyment of lessons at KS3 and numbers of students opting to take History has been increasing in recent years.
Currently students are entered for Edexcel 1336C (SHP)
This involves the study of:
Germany from 1918-1945; Crime and Punishment from the Romans to the present day, and coursework on the Holocaust and the History of football
