The Library is central to the school with over 8000 resources for Students and Staff to access.
Subject Teaching Staff make appointments to visit the Library with their classes and it is a valuable teaching tool for all year groups.
There is seating for over 50 people and facilities for sound and projection displays with a drop down screen and whiteboard.
It is used as a meeting venue for school business and outside agencies that may require a large meeting room.
We subscribe to the School Library Service each year and this provides us with just over 3000 new books which we can exchange throughout the year to keep our book stock current to meet the demands of the National Curriculum. The SLS also provide Professional Librarian advice and support to the Library Manager and classroom Project Collections for Staff use.
Students can take out 2 fiction books for 2 weeks and renew their books if required for a further 2 weeks.
All Students have their own unique 4 digit PIN number to take books out.
Students can also take out two Information books once they have paid a security deposit of £10. This money is refunded to the Student on leaving School providing they have not lost or damaged any books.
Portchester School values student’s leisure time and we have a Puzzle Club with games supplied by The Happy Puzzle Company.
These games are played at lunch time in the Library and they help promote good interpersonal skills between the boys and excellent brain training!
