Music

In Portchester’s music department, we aim to motivate and encourage all students, no matter what your musical taste is.
As a department, we endeavour to make our lessons enjoyable for all, regardless of ability.
All lessons and schemes of work are written by the department staff to ensure that our lessons capture the interest of our students.
It is our belief that music is most successfully learnt through practical means, so we try to encourage all students to take part in practical activities and provide the opportunity for students to use a range of instruments and resources.

Facilities & resources

The music department has two music rooms, one with computer cluster and one room with keyboards.
Each computer has Cubase Studio 4, a MIDI keyboard and audio interface, allowing recording to be done at each workstation.
We have a soundproof band rehearsal room with guitar amps and a drum kit. We have one practise room with a piano, a room with DJ decks and a studio where multi-track recording can be done.
There is a selection of classroom percussion, including samba instruments and African drums. We have a number of acoustic, electric and guitars and orchestral instruments. We also have a school radio station, which the students can use to create their own podcasts.
